Calor Gas Ltd

Following a period of workforce uncertainty in 1991, Calor Gas Ltd chose to outsource its production workforce and selected Drake International as its supplier. The decision to award the contract to Drake was primarily due to the company’s vast experience in providing flexible workforces in a highly unionised environment.

The financial and operational benefits to Calor are considerable. The flexible workforce can be called upon as and when needed, significantly reducing staffing costs. For example, the number of workers on site in winter can be up to twice those required during the summer months so the flexibility provided by Drake allows Calor to staff its business appropriately. A core workforce is maintained throughout the year with additional support from seasonal workers.

All staff supplied to Calor under this contract are employees of Drake, freeing Calor of many of the burdens of employing large numbers of staff. Drake handles the recruitment process from beginning to end and is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all staff.

Drake now supplies staff to five Calor sites: Grangemouth, Port Clarence, Plymouth, Neath and Ipswich.

EJOT UK Ltd

EJOT UK Ltd is a subsidiary of EJOT GmbH based in Germany and is a manufacturer and supplier of technical fastening solutions to a variety of construction, automotive, medical and electronic industries on a global basis.

For their logistics operations EJOT requires reliable staff that are prepared to tackle a physically and mentally challenging role involving fast paced order picking and packing along with operation of the computerised stock control and despatch labelling systems.

In the past EJOT had difficulty obtaining suitable candidates to fill both the temporary and temp to perm positions when using employment agencies for recruitment.

Drake International (York) was first approached in August 2008. Although a change in the global situation meant that EJOT’s requirements changed also, Drake Intl provided a selection of candidates of a much higher calibre than any of the employment agencies EJOT had used previously.

Even though requirements changed at short notice in 2008, EJOT received regular communication from Drake Intl to ensure that the consultant was always up-to-date on EJOT’s recruitment needs. This meant that as soon as EJOT had a requirement for a supply of temporary staff Drake Intl were fully aware of the requirements and were able to provide suitable candidates for approval within 24 hours of request.

The candidates supplied so far have proven to be very well suited to EJOT’s needs with all the necessary skills to enable them to pass quickly through the training programme and become a productive member of the logistics operation.
