Senior Research Nurse / Coordinator £35-40,000p/a England - London Full-time, permanent MTCT0908
We are currently recruiting for a Clinical Research nurse, with haematology & oncology experience, for one of London's top private hospitals. This will be a full time role with normal working hours.

The Senior Research Nurse will coordinate and oversee the day-to-day conduct of a discrete programme of clinical research, possibly across multiple sites and specialities. Call us on 0870 241 0838 for more information.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

Managerial & Administrative

• To assist in the set up and maintenance of clinical trial investigator files.
• To liaise with nursing management to ensure adequate resource and training are provided for the conduct of clinical trials.
• To liaise with study sponsors, investigators and research staff on clinical trial matters.
• To liaise with the Clinical Trials Office and sponsor companies regarding administration and documentation of clinical studies.
• To develop and work in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures.
• To prepare for external clinical audits and assist local auditors / trial sponsor representatives with their enquiries.
• To liaise with the clinical trials unit to ensure accurate recording of completed patient visits.
• To oversee and participate in data collection activities.
• To receive review and disseminate study documentation related to protocol modifications and patient safety.
• To maintain detailed and accurate records of all patients either screened for or recruited to trials.

Clinical Responsibilities

• To prepare for the arrival and care of trial participants.
• To inform and recruit patients to the trials in accordance with research governance and ethically approved protocols.
• To oversee and participate in the administration of study medications and nursing care according to protocol defined procedures.
• To maintain and titrate patient medication in accordance with study protocols and approved patient group directives.
• To be familiar with prescribed medications, their mode of action and potential adverse drug reactions.
• To report suspected adverse drug reactions to the investigator, department manager and study sponsor.
• To report suspected adverse drug reactions to the relevant authorities in accordance with the Medicines for Human Use Regulations (2004).
• To request relevant investigations (blood tests, Echocardiography, x rays e.t.c.) as specified in clinical trial protocols.
• To ensure that abnormalities are reported promptly to a senior member of the oncology medical team and study sponsor.
• To clearly document trial related activities and treatment modifications in patients medical / nursing records and case report forms.
• To review and resolve data queries in a prompt and timely manner.
• Monitoring patient progress, signs, symptoms and offer appropriate care and advice.
• To communicate all patient visits and changes in medication to the patient’s GP.

Education

• To provide advice, training and support to research and clinical staff across multiple sites.
• To develop and maintain a broad understanding of the purpose and methods of trials conducted within the hospital's departments.
• To develop and maintain an in depth understanding of trials for which the post holder is the lead research nurse / coordinator.
• To maintain and update skills in venepuncture, cannulation and chemotherapy care.
• To take personal responsibility for ongoing professional development and undertake a yearly update in ICH / GCP.
• To undertake regular updates in basic-intermediate life support techniques including defibrillation.
• To undertake mandatory training as and when necessary.
• To attend ad hoc investigator meetings (national and international) and work flexible hours as required.

Resources, Budgets & Finance

• To assist with the preparation of clinical trial logistical planning and costing in conjunction with the hospital's Clinical trials unit Manager.
• To assist in the monitoring and reporting of patient visits to facilitate financial tracking.
• To report immediately to the hospital's R&D Manager any issue which, in the post holder’s opinion, may adversely influence patient recruitment or financial targets.
• To have an awareness of budgetary implications when recruiting patients (i.e. transportation costs) and utilizing the hospital's resources for research purposes.
• To participate in the selection, recruitment and training of new research nursing staff.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

• RGN preferably with 2 years of Haematology / oncology research experience
• Good standard of general education preferably to degree level.
• Knowledge of windows based operating systems
• Ability to work with spreadsheets and databases (intermediate to advanced level)
• Knowledge of ICH & GCP (desirable, although training can be provided)
• In-depth knowledge of research governance (desirable but training can be provided)
• Teaching experience desirable

We are currently recruiting for a PICU Charge Nurse to work in a prestigious private hospital in Central London. You will be responsible for the effective operational Management, organisation and delivery of high quality nursing care and clinical leadership of the nursing team within the PICU, and assist in the continued development of the department.
